2016 will see the first year of Sky’s partnership with the R&A with exclusive live coverage of the 145th Open from Royal Troon in Scotland. This competition makes Sky Sports the ultimate Home of Golf and the only place viewers can watch all of the golfing majors across the year.
The Open is the oldest of the four major championships in professional golf and is the third major of the year. The tournament will be played between 14th–17th July. Last years competition came to an exciting end with a 3 way tie forcing a 4 hole playoff between Zach Johnson, Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuisen, with Zach Johnson being crowned the winner. This year The Open will be played in Royal Troon, a links course in Scotland, with both the longest and shortest holes in Open Championship golf. As ever the Irish contingent is strong with presence from Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington. Given Shane Lowry’s recent performance in the US Open, no doubt viewers will be eager to see if he can maintain his run of play.
